Homemade Chili Oil Dumplings with ground chicken filling
Today I am making easy chicken dumplings with a spicy tangy chili oil dipping sauce! This recipe is super beginner-friendly, and you don’t need any special skills to make it.
I’m using ready-made wonton wrappers to keep things quick and simple, and the filling is made with basic pantry staple ingredients. These chicken dumplings cook in just 3 minutes, making them perfect for a quick meal or appetizer.
The homemade chili oil takes about 5 to 10 minutes to whip up, and you can store it in the fridge for later use on noodles, dumplings, or even stir-fries!
Ingredients:
Ground Chicken - 500g
Salt - 1 tbsp
White Pepper - 1/2 tbsp
Scallions - 20g
Grated Ginger - 1 tsp
Sesame Oil - 1 tbsp
Egg - 1 large
Corn Starch - 1 tbsp
Wonton Skin - 35 sheets
CHILLI OIL
Cooking Oil - 1 cup
Garlic - 10 cloves
Chilli Flakes - 3 tbsp
Paprika Powder - 1 tbsp
DIPPING SAUCE
Chilli Oil - 4 tbsp
Light Soy Sauce - 2 tbsp
Black Vinegar - 1/2 tbsp
Scallions (a pinch)
Instructions:
PREPARE INGREDIENTS
Cut scallions into small slices
Chop 10 cloves of garlic
PREPARE THE FILLING
In a mixing bowl, place 500g of ground chicken.
Add 1 tbsp of salt, 1/2 tbsp of white pepper, 20g of scallions, 1 tsp of grated ginger, and 1 tbsp of sesame oil and mix everything thoroughly.
Next, add one egg to bind the mixture, and 1 tbsp of corn starch for a soft, bouncy texture after cooking. Mix well again until all ingredients are fully combined.
Keep it in fridge while preparing other ingredients.
PREPARE THE CHILLI OIL
In a small saucepan, heat 1 cup of cooking oil. I am using sunflower oil, but you can use vegetable oil, peanut oil or any other cooking oil you have at hand (except olive oil and avocado oil)
Once the oil is hot, add 10 cloves of finely chopped garlic. Fry garlic for 4-5 minutes on low-medium heat. Once the garlic turns golden, turn off the stove.
Add 3 tbsp of dried chilli flakes, and 1 tbsp of paprika. Stir well for 30 seconds and pour the mixture into a heat-proofed bowl.
PREPARE THE DIPPING SAUCE
In a small bowl, add 4 tbsp of chili oil, 2 tbsp of light soy sauce, 1/2 tbsp of black vinegar and 1 tbsp of finely chopped scallions and mix well. This is the dipping sauce for the dumplings so you can adjust the taste to your liking.
MAKE DUMPLINGS
Place 1 teaspoon of the filling in the center of a pre-made dumpling or gyoza wrapper. Moisten the edges with a bit of cold water, then fold the wrapper into a triangle. Press along the edges firmly to seal it completely. Next, bring the two edges of the triangle together and pinch them firmly to create the dumpling.
Boil some water in a large pot.
Gently drop the dumplings into boiling water and cook for 3 minutes.
Using a strainer, remove the dumplings and place them directly onto a serving plate. (NOTE - cook dumplings in batches to avoid overcrowding the pot. )
Drizzle the dipping sauce over the hot steaming dumplings, then serve immediately.
